Ferrari Maximum Blanc de Blancs: Italian Metodo
Ferrari Maximum Blanc de Blancs NV: 100% Chardonnay, 36 months on the lees, from Trentino Alpine vineyards. Italy's metodo classico flagship.
Seven-time “Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year” at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships, most recently 2024. Ferrari Trento has been making metodo classico in Trentino since 1902, founded by Giulio Ferrari, run by the Lunelli family since 1952. The Ferrari Maximum Blanc de Blancs NV, 100% Chardonnay, minimum 36 months on the lees, is their calling card. Importer Goessens sent a bottle.
Vineyards
Chardonnay at 300-700 metres elevation in the Trentino Alps. Cool climate with major day-night temperature swings gives slow, balanced ripening; acidity stays high while the fruit develops complexity. Calcareous soils for drainage and minerality. Organic management, hand picking, green harvest.

Vinification
Second fermentation in bottle. Minimum 36 months on the lees; well above the Trento DOC minimum (15 months). The élevage delivers the brioche layer and creamy texture that define this cuvée.
Tasting notes

Pale lemon with fine sustained mousse. The nose carries ripe golden apple, lemon zest and white peach, with fresh-baked bread, toasted almond and acacia blossom. Clean and clear.
On the palate dry, vibrant medium-plus acidity, medium-plus body. Nose returns on the tongue: citrus, apple, stone fruit. Creaminess from extended lees aging against fresh mineral line. Long finish with brioche and lemon curd.
At the table
Seared scallops in lemon butter, risotto ai funghi, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano as aperitif.
Verdict
Italy’s response to Champagne in its own style, not as imitation. For drinkers ready to look beyond France without sacrificing quality, a direct choice.
