Rouge en Voiture: Redefining Alcohol-Free Red
Tannin from an alcohol-free red. That’s what Cul Sec puts on the table with Rouge en Voiture. From their Roze Bunker in Amsterdam, de Fruitslagers build a drink that doesn’t apologise for what it is.
The base is organic Sangiovese grape juice, but the simplicity stops there. Instead of stripping alcohol from existing wine, Cul Sec builds complexity from the ground up. Water-based botanical infusions add depth. Slow fermentation with kombucha and kefir cultures develops the flavour. Carefully selected tinctures, kept below 0.5 percent alcohol, return the volatile aromatics usually carried by alcohol.
In the glass
Smoky turf, hibiscus, and red berries unfold on the palate. The tannin structure is real: that light drying sensation characteristic of classic reds. Cacao, vanilla, and peppery spice come through in layers, and the combined fermentation cultures deliver a long finish.

With food
It works best with food. Pasta and East Asian dishes bring out the structured side. Restaurants are now using it in their pairing menus, alongside wine rather than after.
At around €15 per bottle, Rouge en Voiture is a workable new starting point for mindful drinking. Sustainable, layered, and without the flavour gap that has defined the alcohol-free category for too long.
