When was the last time you considered Dutch wine seriously? If you’re like most wine lovers, the answer is probably never. But Domein Holset’s newly released Ros\u00e9 Brut 2022 might just change your perspective on what the Netherlands can produce in a bottle.<\/p>\n

Winemaker Kirsten Abels employs m\u00e9thode traditionnelle at their Lemiers winery, because anything less wouldn’t honor their meticulously grown fruit. Hand-harvested grapes undergo gentle whole-cluster pressing to preserve delicate aromatics and that appealing salmon-pink color.<\/p>\n

The base wine ferments and ages on stainless steel, undergoing complete malolactic fermentation to soften natural tartness and create more complex flavors. Then comes the waiting game: 24 months of bottle aging on lees, developing those telltale brioche notes that separate serious sparkling wine from simple fizz.<\/p>\n

D\u00e9gorgement occurred in March 2024, with a restrained 6 grams per liter dosage\u2014just enough to balance the wine’s natural acidity without masking its terroir-driven character.<\/p>\n

What the Specs Promise<\/h2>\n

Based on the technical details, expect a brilliant salmon-rose color with persistent, fine mousse indicating proper traditional method production. The producer describes red fruit aromatics brightened by citrus zest, delivered in a fresh, dry, and refined style.<\/p>\n

At 12% alcohol, this brut-style sparkler should feel crisp and food-friendly, with the 24-month lees aging contributing subtle complexity without overwhelming delicate fruit expression.<\/p>\n

But here’s what I’m really curious about for my Sparks tasting: How does this compare to other cool-climate sparklers? Does the Dutch terroir come through distinctively? And most importantly\u2014does it deliver on its premium pricing promise?<\/p>\n

At \u20ac32.50 per bottle (or \u20ac187.50 for a six-pack with free shipping), Domein Holset positions this wine in premium territory for Dutch sparkling wine. The pricing reflects both production costs of m\u00e9thode traditionnelle and limited scale\u2014this isn’t mass-market bubbles.<\/p>\n
